The Cinque Terre (Five Lands) and Gulf of the Poets is the name given to five small towns on the sea: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. Built into the mountainside on cliffs that drop down into the sea, the Cinque Terre form a natural park. The view of the rocky coast and vinyard lined hills is breathtaking. Monterosso, with it's antique towers that dominate the town and it's wonderful beach is a must for tourists. Vernazza looks down upon one of the most spectacular bays along the coast. From Riomaggiore initiates the splendid "Street of Love", that weaves its way along the rocky mountainside to Manarola, an antique seaside town.
The Gulf of the Poets has always been a prestigious tourist destination for the atmosphere, climate, art, history, traditions and cuisine of the area, which covers the City Councils of La Spezia, Lerici and Portovenere.
