Bettona, authentic "Etruscan Balcony", located to the left of the Tiber River is
easily accessible from Perugia (20 km), Assisi, Todi and Orvieto. A part of
Bettona's history is closely linked to the ancient Amerinan and Flaminian Ways.
Bettona is a natural overlook onta one of the most characteristic Umbrian views
created by the semicircular chain of the centrai Apennines that extends from
Lake Trasimeno to Perugia, Assisi, Spello, Foligno and Montefalco. The "city
wall", formed by well-preserved structures from the
Etruscan times and Middle Ages, is still intact.
It is 1000 m long with towers, bastions and drawbridges. From the walls, one has
a complete view of the valley below with its fertile plains. At a glance, one
takes in the dark, soft lines of the hills with the continuity of colors of the
soil and plants, which are sometimes contrasting, sometimes blending, depending
upon the season.
The serenity of this natural view is made even more familiar by the numerous
agricultural settlements and the panorama of the surrounding cities: Assisi,
clinging to the side of Mount Subasio, Spello, to the cast, St. Mary of the
Angels in the plains, Cannara, Bevagna, Bastia, Torgiano and Perugia, almost
hidden in the glimmer of the horizon.
At
Bettona, there is tourist accommodation available in hotels, farm holiday,
farmhouse, residence self-catering accommodation, b&b, rooms for rent, holiday
homes, camp sites and tourist villages.
