Extended towards the French Tarantaise,
Valgrisenche (1664 m) shows its visitor
a circle of mountains covered by glaciers. The slopes of this valley are
reachable through short trips, long excursions, such as the Tour around Mount
Ruitor, and climbs of any kind of difficulty. Rock walls at little distance from
the built area, offer plenty of possibilities for free climbing. At
Valgrisenche
the traces of the past are still numerous and they are a witness about the
ancient settlements of man in this valley, strategically important for the
transit towards the neighbouring Val d'Isère.
The recollection of the past survives in the traditional manifacture of "drap",
a raw woollen fabric for cloths and fittings, made out through the work on
ancient looms. Days are often cheerecl by the local chorale. The peculiar
microclimate in this valley causes the snow to fall always plentiful and powdry.
The skiing district is particularly suitable for beginners and families with
children. As for cross-country runs they offer developments and differences in
level proper to any skill of training. But the top is made up by skiing by means
of helicopter, a recent and modern way suitable for the best skiers. Of course,
the valley with all this snow offers chances even to touring skiers. Yet a place
is guaranteed for the holidays of those who look for the truest aspects of the
mountain, without beeing sportsmen.
At
Valgrisenche, there is tourist accommodation available in hotels, farm
holiday, farmhouse, residence self-catering accommodation, mountain chalets,
b&b, rooms for rent, holiday homes, camp sites and tourist villages.
