Description: Set up in 1870 with collections dating back to the Medici, documentation on the Etruscan civilization is its high-light. It consists of several sections: the Topographical Museum of Etruria, the Etruscan-Greek-Roman Archaeological Museum with Etruscan bronzes (the "Chimera" and the "Arringatore"), Greek originals (the "Idolino"), a collection of vases and terra-cotta (including the vase "Francois", famous Greek original), the Numismatic Room, the Collection of Treasure, the Pre-historic section, paintings taken from the necropolis in Orvieto. The Egyptian Museum is the second ranking in Italy after the one in Turin, it houses the collections deriving from expeditions during the last century, Ippolito Rosellini's collection (1828-29) takes pride of place. The museum is partly closed and being restored following the flood of 1966, which devastated many of its sections.
