The Gallery of the Istituto degli Innocenti is located in the hall over the façade portico and exhibits nearly fifty works that are for the most part pictorial. Here, visitors may see the Adoration of the Magi (1488) by Domenico Ghirlandaio, and the Madonna and Child (about 1450) by Luca della Robbia, a original table dating back to the late fifteenth century, a Madonna in throne with Child and Saints, considered one of Pietro di Cosimo's masterpieces; a Madonna and Child by Sandro Botticelli, executed as an imitation of a more famous work by his master, Filippo Lippi. Furthermore, the exhibition comprises Renaissance prie-dieus, chests and furnishings. A few showcases permit to admire a few graduals and illuminated antiphonaries by Giovanni Gherardo that date back to the first half of the fifteenth century. Inside the building, the visitor may admire the well-balanced and harmonious spaces of the two cloisters: the Men's cloister where, on the side door to the church, there is a lunette with an Annunciation by Andrea della Robbia and, close to it, a font by Antonio Rossellino; and the Women's cloister, with the perambulator for the children.
